Three Asmat Ancestors #5
All the items that are listed here are vintage from the 1980s so they are not in absolute MINT condition. They are second-hand and come with wear commensurate with age. Please refer to the photos for detailed item descriptions.
This is a hardwood (generally called ironwood)ancestor figure from the late 1980s (purchased in 1991 in Timika, Papua, Indonesia). It's one of the larger carvings in my collection. The length is 130 centimeters (51 inches). The wood color runs from light brown on some parts of the carving to a darker brown in other parts. The indentations (scarification marks, eyes, fingers) still have the original white pigmentation. There are two small borer holes in the back, but they are barely noticeable. The top ancestor figure is holding what appears to be a cassowary bone dagger; the two bottom men are holding hornbill representations. This is a beautiful piece that I'm very fond of.
Price USD 300 for overseas buyers, or 4,200,000 Indonesian Rupiah for people purchasing a carving from within Indonesia. Reasonable offers will be considered.
