Ancestor + Drum #3

All the items that are listed here are vintage from the 1980s so they are not in absolute MINT condition. They are second-hand and come with wear commensurate with age. Please refer to the photos for detailed item descriptions.

This is a hardwood (generally called ironwood)ancestor figure from the late 1980s (purchased in 1989 in Agats, Papua, Indonesia). It is 73 centimeters (28.5 inches) in length. The wood color is brown. There are no cracks, holes or chips in this piece. It is in excellent condition.

The ancestor figure is holding the representation of a hornbill. A drum is on his head. The drum has a number of designs on it. The top may represent water, while the lower designs may represent fish. However, as I noted when discussing other carvings, the meanings of designs can vary from carver to carver and area to area.

Price USD 100 for overseas buyers, or 1,400,000 Indonesian Rupiah for people purchasing a carving from within Indonesia. Reasonable offers will be considered.
